Stonehill Stables are located close to the town of Chudleigh, nestled between Haldon Hill and Dartmoor. This beautiful location helps us to provide a calming and safe environment where our therapists and ponies can help support families, individuals and carers living with drug addiction or dependency.

Drug and alcohol dependency is continually rising.

Equine-assisted psychotherapy is so unique in the way it treats this dependency.

Horses help people identify, experience, and cope with their emotions by getting in touch with their thoughts and feelings rather than relying on drugs /alcohol or behaviour to numb them.

Our horses will mirror/react and sense your emotions and they will challenge you to look at yourself and the world in a whole new way.

If you are feeling angry or aggressive our ponies may be obstinate, if you are anxious they will hear your heartbeat and become skittish if you are too passive or detached they may not lead for you…..they will show you every emotion you are trying to run away from.

Working with our mental health practitioners we can help you identify these feelings and work out to process them to alleviate the need to rely on drugs or alcohol as a prop.

Sessions are either 90 minutes or half a day, parents can contact us directly or we are happy to take referrals from social prescribers, social workers and the NHS. Activities are mainly outdoors so warm, waterproof clothing is required. Hard hats and gloves will be provided, refreshments are available free of charge. A disabled toilet is available on site and most activities are wheelchair friendly. Some activities may be funded or part-funded for those who need financial help. We are fully insured and all our staff are fully qualified, DBS checked and some are specialists in certain fields.
